This piccie features one of my all-time favourite standard lenses, the legendary Kuribayashi Orikkor 50mm f2 made by Petri.
Just check it out on Google - it offers a truly dreamy bokeh and is wonderfully sharp. Here one of them is attached to a lovely, ancient Yashica Reflex 35.

Unfortunately, the word is out and prices for these lenses can easily run to $150 but if you spot one for a good price, grab it - you won't be disappointed. And with lots of M42 to C/Y adapters you can easily enjoy them on your favourite Yashica...
This was taken using one of the lenses - good colour rendition, pretty sharp and over 50 years old....

It was always going to be impossible to resist: another of these beautiful lenses. I took it for a walk this morning with a Yashica FX-D and an Olympus E-M1 MkIII and once again it produced some lovely images. It does sit rather nicely on the Yashica camera... FX-D Kuribayashi 50 f2

IMO, this is not a great bokeh lens, just another internet myth continually repeated. Your pictures, Graham, don't show it at its worst but there's plenty of examples around that do. For instance: _DSF0282"Petri Orikkor Kuribayashi 50mm f2" by Nico V, on Flickr Wide open the bokeh is confusing with obvious bright edges to OOF highlights and clear vignetting which would lead to swirly bokeh in some circumstances. _DSF5965"Petri Orikkor Kuribayashi 50mm f2" by Nico V, on Flickr Not the worst there is but there are much better bokeh lenses out there.

Hello Peter I've not been able to get my copies of the lens to show such a confusing bokeh. Perhaps that's simply my photographic failure. This was the piccie I snagged this morning and, while the ML or DX 50mm f2 (DX in the C/Y mount) might be sharper across the frame, I like the feel of the photo... Petri Kurabayashi 50mm f2 Looking at the left wing of that fly, it looks like it had a narrow squeak recently... Had I shot this with the ML lens, as it was very bright this morning and I had no lens hood, I'm sure contrast would have been stronger but the colour is not bad and the out of focus rendering is unobtrusive. I might take a Tomioka Macro Yashinon 60mm lens with me tomorrow which is another old lens I really enjoy using.
