Hi All,
I am new here.
Just wondering if anyone can recommend the right glue for fixing up the leatherette on my TLR camera? It's only a small part that is coming off, like 10mm by 5mm (or smaller). I am looking for the right type of glue and not just the superglue.
Please let me know.
Thanking you all in advance.

You're right to stay away from superglue. If you only need to mend a small piece that's loose, or a brittle chunk that's fallen off - I'd use Pliobond. Apply it with a toothpick dipped into the opening of the squeeze tube to get less than a drop-sized glob that you can apply. Most film-era camera techs use this, and it's cheap and effective. And... Pliobond will NOT get hard and difficult to remove if needed. Do follow the directions though, to make sure it sets the way you want it to. Amazon link: amzn.to/2R0UTOQ

For anyone stumbling across this, there's another adhesive that works well for repairing larger pieces or re-gluing entire panels - or as a primary adhesive for custom cutting their own, new, leatherette. I've always used a 1.5 inch wide, Scotch branded, "Indoor Carpet Tape". It's close to the required size for 35mm body panels in height, it's cheaper than 2-sided glue sheets, it stays pliable, it's easy to handle when applying, and easier to remove when needed. Amazon link, for reference: amzn.to/2PPw743The same application tricks that work with leatherette kits (that already have an adhesive backing) will work on the tape too. Brush a thin coating of unscented Purell hand sanitizer on the exposed adhesive and it will allow the pieces to be moved/aligned before it evaporates and starts to bond. Straight 99% alcohol can work, but that drys really quick. Some cautions... - This tape is NOT the type with foam or cloth strips that have glue on both sides. It's just the microns-thick rubber adhesive layer itself, with a paper backing that peels off. The others are messy, messy, messy stuff on cameras when your warm hands heat up the goo.
- If anyone prefers some of the larger sheet adhesives instead of the tape, be wary of which type adhesive is used. Many will dry hard or brittle, and some are far more 'permanent'. You don't want to scrape off a misaligned panel with a heat gun and a scalpel.

Hi All,
I have been looking for the Pliobond glue since last month and most of the sellers that I found are all US based. Whilst the price of this glue is not expensive, most of the sellers are charging the postage in excess of us$25. Some do not even shipped outside USA.
As I am not from the US, finding one was an uphill task.
Yesterday I managed to locate a seller called hobbyking.com <https://hobbyking.com/en_us/micro-engineering-pliobond-rubber-based-cement-1oz-tube-49-102.html> via Amazon. I believe they are from Hong Kong and the postage is very reasonable.
If you are looking for one, feel free to visit the site.
Cheers

There is another similar glue, Kai, called Weldbond. If you can find out the properties of either of the brands, you might be able to find a comparable product. Of course, good old Contact Cement works too.

Hi lumiworx Once again, thanks. The German link is out of stock and I have forward a message to the one in Dixon and asked them if they are posting the product to Australia. I wonder how much they will be charging for the postage. Yes, I am from Australia. I went to a hardware store last weekend, one of the largest in the country. They have many glue in tube form but I just couldn't figure out which one to pick. Since this Pliobond is a safe and recommended brand, I though I will stick to this, but finding one is so hard. This product (in tube form) is not available in Australia and all I need is just one or 2 drops. Talking about stress!! I will wait for the reply from the company in Dixon and see what they have to say. Thanks for the info. You have been very helpful. Cheers

Yes, I did it on a Mercury II flic.kr/s/aHsjzdMhue The proper way is to put a layer of glue on the camera, plus a layer on the back of the coverings, and let them sit for about 30 seconds so the glue is tacky, then fit the coverings on the camera. Don't use too much though or it will come oozing out the edges.

kai - why don't you ask the manufacturer for an Australian source? Maybe it's sold under a different brandname in Australia.

Hi matthiasausk I wrote to a company in Australia that sells all kind of glue products but I didn't get a reply. I visited one of the local hardware store and they have quite a lot of glue in small tubes but I could not figure which one is the right one. Thanks

I may have found the glue - Selleys AllFix Multigrip solvent based glue 30ml.
For those who are in Australia, you can get this from Bunnings for A$7.60.
I will be giving this a try this weekend.
