I just purchased an Electro 35 and it was not until I received it that I realized the lens was missing the self timer lever.
The lack of the lever appears to leave a gap in the lens. Does this affect the picture? In other words, does the gap let in light or otherwise mess up the picture?

It won't effect the lens in any way, since it doesn't when it is there, as the gap you speak of is always there for the lever to move through. Mostly it lets in dirt to eventually clog up the shutter. Depending on how much of the lever is missing, there could be some issues with the shutter operation. It sounds to me like someone did a hack job trying to get it operational again, and you might want to look into getting your money back.
And welcome to the Forum, Earl.
