So there will be a way to directly purchase a Y35? There may be a way -- but is there a reason?

Well, the reason would be just fun: I kinda like the idea of being able to shoot a Yashica without having to purchase film everytime ... except that this camera would not have anything to do whatsoever with Yashica, apart from sporting its label. I don't actually feel too strongly about this, it's just kind of tiresome to see so many once proud brand names such as Yashica, Rollei, Agfa, Grundig etc. bought up for a smile and glued onto some low-level junk. Feels like ripping the boots off a dead man, in a way...

It's here! It's plastic! It's a P.O.S.
Glad I used that $100 for something else.

Why are you so surprised? Did you really expect some kind of decent camera?
Is there any photography related kickstarter that ended up well and with a quality product?

Why are you so surprised? Did you really expect some kind of decent camera? Is there any photography related kickstarter that ended up well and with a quality product? Isn't that how Intrepid Camera got their start? Going through Kickstarter's metrics only gives you a list compiled of projects that exceeded their funding goal, not ones that actually got a product out the door. They do have almost 500 projects in the works right now, so somewhere in there ought to be at least a dozen or more that will go into production.
It's a fine endeavor, being a clearing house for anyone trying to get an idea to market. You can't fault Kickstarter themselves, just those that fail to come through with the goods. I don't have a lot of expendable cash laying around, so I don't pay much attention to what happens. I do see articles though on projects that did come to fruition, but not a lot of them. I looked at about a hundred projects tonight, and there weren't many that really caught my eye as something I couldn't live without.
I was excited about the Yashica Y35 project right from the start, but not enough to get me to open my wallet. It's like any digital camera, don't buy the first of a series, wait until they make improvements to it. And I expressed my doubts about the Y35 being a viable product a long time ago, or trusting the makers of bringing a quality product to the market. The first red flags started flying when they suddenly were going to "improve" on the specs shortly after the fundraising started, like they didn't already have that planned. But when you delved into the facts, they cheapened the camera to make the improvements, while raising the funding minimums (price). I decided then I didn't even want one as a collectable.
Capital investing is always a tricky endeavor, even more so with Kickstarter, as you have very little recourse if they spend all the money on company beer parties. So no, I wasn't surprised. I saw what was coming, and didn't waste any of my money on it.

Peak Design have gone through a bunch of kickstarters for their accessories and bags. Also, Trigger Trap, first time round, produced a viable and well liked product. The Y35, however, always looked like it would be a bit rubbish.

Saw that a few days ago. I don't think his style of dismantling the camera will get him any requests for repair work.
