I have been tempted by a very nice copy of this lens recently, particularly after seeing how good the ML 50 f/2 is. When I looked I noticed there’s no thread dedicated to it here on Yashica Forum which seems a little strange as the 50/1.4 is traditionally a very important lens in the line up. I’d like to get people’s views on how it sits in the Yashica 50mm world. I have a Zeiss 50/1.4 and I also have the Pentax M, Pentax K and Canon FD so what I really need to hear is all about what a terrible lens Yashica have made!

It's perfectly awful, Barry, truly execrable, not anywhere near sharp, of the flimsiest build quality the world has ever seen. You might just as well shoot your pictures through a milk bottle instead of spending a single penny on this crappy piece of sh... That what you wanted? OK, let's get serious: GET IT!

Well I did buy it, but i've yet to play with it properly. Not helped by the fact that my Contax 159MM died at the weekend.

I had one. Loved it. Only problem was oily blades but very sharp. Yashica made fine lenses (except some of the YUS, very poor contrast imo). I am waiting on an ML 80-200 that I ordered for my Sony nex. I would love to find a ML 24mm at a reasonable price (around 35mm on my nex) or a 24mm m42 version if one was ever made. I also am waiting on my 50 f1.7 yashinon, 28 and 35mm copies. Lots of chooting o do when weather warms up.

The 50/1.4 was good but was re-sold it as it just didn't add much over the Contax 50/1.7, ML 50/2 and Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 I already have (also I'm trying very hard to clear out my camera cases).
For what it's worth the ML24, in spite of it's legendary status, I though was not as good as the Olympus OM 24/2.8. The Sigma Super-Wide II also seems to be about as good and the ML and with the added benefit (for some of us) of an MM tab.
