lumiworx Well, that sounds interesting. I bought this lens with this flaw, but i am unaware, to fix it. Quote feature doesn't seem to work atm, so i reply you here. Yes, the Zoom Ring feels really kinda stuck, and i am worried, about breaking something. Perhaps the Macro Feature is still being engaged, as you wrote before? So how do i fix this issue? It would require some kind of pressure, -force to turn the Zoom Ring, and i don't want to break my nice 28-85 AF. To be honest, i haven't tried it. I bought it labeled as "defect", i couldn't see any visual damage, until i've noticed last month, the Zoom ring doesn't turn anymore, so here it goes, that defective Zoom Feature - interesting find, Lumiworx, so it might being stuck into macro mode?
edit, i've managed to rotate from the 28mm to ca. 35mm position, but the inner barrel seems to be loose, there's about 1mm play, and i can't push the zoom ring any further, no matter how much, hard i do try.

That AF Macro from Romania is mine now, my offer of USD 210.00 was immediately accepted. Can't wait to lay my hands on it...

Good luck with this, gentlegiant. Is it bad to say, i got the Yashica 230 AF, 50/1.8, 28-85 AF (2nd) and 60/2.8 AF with a vintage leather bag, like mint, for about 1/10 the price, alltogether.

This is in the testbed gallery on the batch 3 tests, but I'll post it here as a reference for others too... I'm assuming that your's is the same lens as mine (on the right), and will have the same orange-labeled macro switch in the raised square that's in the rubber grip of the zoom ring. If the zoom is at any range other than 85mm (or the line of dashes, further to the right), that macro switch should be in the same upward pointing position it's in above. If the zoom is extended to the 85mm mark, the switch can be slid up towards the filter ring to engage the macro range just past the 85mm mark. It's a bit tricky to engage it and have it stay in macro, since the zoom ring has to twist past the 85mm mark before it will stay in that slid-up position. In order to disengage the macro and get back down to the normal zoom range, the reverse set of steps are needed, and the switch won't stay disengaged until the zoom rotates out of the marked macro range. Constant pressure on the switch is needed in both operations while you twist, or the macro will lock into position until you've actually gone into the intended range. It doesn't take a lot of force to get the switch to slide, or to hold it into position while it gets moved - but it does take more than a light push up or down when going from one setting to the other. If your zoom ring is now in the 35mm position and the arrow on the switch is in the same upward/filter-ring-end pointing position as it is in this picture (just past 50mm, above), then I think your macro isn't engaged, and it's in the normal position. If it's switched into the downward/rearward pointing position, then the macro may have been engaged at one time, and was probably forced past the lock point. If that has happened then it likely bound-up the mechanism too tightly to move without breaking. In that case, I think it might need surgery to get it unstuck. Some past owner may not have been aware of the switching gymnastics needed to lock/unlock the macro, and forced it out of its working range. Once upon a time, the term '3 finger salute' was used to describe how one had to force a PC to release some runaway process so you could regain control of it. This lens's macro switch reminds me of the same CTRL/ALT/DEL finger fumbling to get it to behave.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose... ;) If one alternative is to buy a Zeiss Makro-Planar 60mm f/2.8 that doesn't have some type of optical issues, the 'sold' prices on eBay (US) have ranged from $350-500 over the past few months, and the asking prices for the same is currently $350-923.99. Another alternative might possibly be a Vivitar/Panagor/(Tomioka) 60mm Macro at roughly the same price or slightly less than the Yashica AF Macro's. Any way you slice it, anything that has the desired IQ and quality to be in the same club where the price is well under $350 shouldn't make anyone unhappy when that's what they're after. I'm too old for a 'happy dance', but I can grin real big while others spend their $600/700/800/900+ and don't mind spending that much.

Correct, lumiworx. I may not have struck a super bargain, but I got what I wanted at a fair price (provided everything pans out the way it should).

Yes, you did a fair price, congrats. lumiworxyou mistyped my nickname here. Nope my 28-85 AF is locked into the ~35mm Position, as exactly written before, it was before being stuck at 28mm, but i've managed with some force to push it to 35mm...now it's even more being stuck, and the inner barrel does have some ~1mm play around, compared to the other barrel. I'd guess it's "trashcan" food..too sad, it does look like into mint condition....
