The Hong Kong marketing outfit that owns the Yashica brand (MF Jebsen Group) sounds like they are either reviving the brand, or just horning in on all the revival hoopla while having only an iPhone lens to promote. Make up your own mind on this, but I wouldn't plan on standing in line for a digital GSN. petapixel.com/2017/09/15/yashica-camera-brand-teasing-big-comeback/PF

I saw they are announcing a kickatarter in October. Don't know for what. There is a clip on style smartphone lens for sale on their website. So I'm thinking, hoping it isn't for that. I guess only time will tell. There is a need for a company to produce new film bodies. Hopefully they will see that.

I’d like to see a digital camera with a C/Y mount manual controls and no rear screen but I think that is an impossible dream.

It's quite intriguing, utilizing some of the characteristics I had thought of while thinking about what would be my dream digital camera. The only thing different was I was going to use the winding lever to run a small piezoelectric generator so you could dispense with the batteries. It would have had a larger sensor too. My choice of "digital film" cans would have been Plus-X, Kodachrome, and Infra-red. Perhaps they can make more as time goes on, something like a release every year of another film type.
I see they have gone way beyond their initial bottom line for the Kickstarter, but am still wavering on jumping in. It's that time of year when all my annual bills come due.

Okay, just had a look at the Kickstarter page. Seems there is a new version in black they are offering. And the prices on everything has gone up. Over 5000 have jumped on the wagon so far. I now officially won't be one.
They have already "upgrade" the lens from f2.8 to f2.0, but in doing so they made the shutter automatic, instead of being able to select the speed yourself, removing the last bit of manual control there was.
So now it's gone from an interesting low budget compact, to just another P&S with a retro look. All of this within the span of a couple of days tells me the company was not straight with the original presentation, that they had plans all along to produce a much simpler model, but needed to hook as many as they could on the Kickstarter by first offering the model with more controls. Who knows how many other changes are coming down the line.
If I had been in the early group of investors, right now I'd be wanting my money back.

I'm absolutely with you there, PF. What a sad end for the Yashica brand name. It kind of feels as if the new owners were p**ing on the graves of all those Yashica workers who produced such classics as the Lynx, the Mat, the Electro 35 and all the rest...

And that photo of the "Limited Edition Black" model (at double the price of a chrome one!) is nothing more than a heavily Photo Shopped rendition of a chrome one. Yecchh! PF
