I was told Zeiss commissioned short runs of microscope cameras from Yashica and Nikon as well as from earlier "In House" models such as Contina III, Continette/Colora, Werra, Voigtlander Vitoret, Contarex and Contax. The catalogue numbers in white are Zeiss numbers and appear in some of their microscope leaflets .... so as such, they were sold by Zeiss, as accessories to the microscopes. The Model numbers and catalogue numbers seemed to appear on the camera bodies starting in the late 60's.
If I can sort out the image hosting problem that has only just appeared, I'll post some sample images of Zeiss literature relating to microscope cameras.
(Anyone else use Photobucket and come across the same problem recently? Anyone got a solution?)

That does look quite the bit like the Nikon M35, with the dark slide shutter and all, though obviously not a Nikon body. I always thought Nikon did their own microscope cameras, since they have a medical imaging system division.
You may be able to get your images unblocked soon, Bob, from what I've read lately.

Thanks to Michael's help, I now know how to post using attachments. So hopefully I can show you the prototype Microscope chart I did years ago and a sample Zeiss leaflet. There is hope that Photobucket might unblock the 3rd party hosting ban and my previous pics might reappear! Attachments:

Strange! It wasn't the first thing that Zeiss and Nikon collaborated on. And since they were both in the microscope business, it might have made good economical sense at the time. Most scopes have a standard mount system for attaching to them, whether it is LTM, or the later bayonet type more popular on the stereo scopes. But since there is a need for an adapter between the camera and scope, then you can have any mount on the camera to match the adapters you are trying to sell to the user. The M-35S is from 1964, and is based on the Nikkorex 35 from 1960 There were two versions, the M-35 being of a standard format, while the M-35S could be switched between 24x36 and 18x24. That could be the main reason Zeiss had it branded for them. PF |

Interestingly, one model that is missing from the Zeiss chart is the Contax 137 variant - a cut back 137MD without the pentaprism, meter, etc. etc.
It is designated M35W 476072-9902 and the one I have has the D-5 Data Back added. The only problem with the M35 series is that most of them take their power from the Zeiss microscope which renders many of them simply a curio (or useful spares for the shutter mechanism if present) unless you have the correct adapter/convertor. |

It's very different and shows little similarity with any of the various CGCM variants.
I do have photos of the M35W, which awaits re-skinning as the leathers have perished, but I hit a problem when trying to upload a magazine ad two days ago as the site has apparently reached the limit of its allowance for attachments. I'm awaiting our Administrator's guidance on the attachments situation; if we can start uploading again, I'll pop images of the front and back, alongside a 137MD, onto the site. |
