This Franka Rolfix II was CLAed by Jurgen Kreckel but it needed more tinkering none-the-less. The finder and the pressure plate both needed straightening, and the focus was off - something like 20 meters on the scale was infinity in practice. It took too much time for me to sort this all out in the year and a half that I have owned this. And Peter's Camera did not get the focus quite right as compared with the method I found to detect infinity focus. But all the same, the four rolls of film that I put though this have been the most fun. The utter simplicity of it, and its light weight construction just make it an object of art for me. Well, anything with an S-K lens should take good photos. That's a good looking example you have there.

Yes, there can be good contrast down to almost pixel level at 35 million pixels, but only at proper focus. And the front cell focus gives a yellow fringe at the edges when focused down to one meter, although I've only seen that once. The S-K Radionar lens is such a simple design. Oh why am I not so fascinated with the 35-80mm zoom lens on my Elan II? Attachments:

Oh why am I not so fascinated with the 35-80mm zoom lens on my Elan II? Let me venture an answer: Because, compared to your Franka, the EOS 50 feels like an ordinary mass product without character and history (and probably won't be able to acquire much of a history as, due to leaking condensers, it will sooner or later meet its untimely electronic brain death)? Anyhow, I understand this fascination with ancient folding cameras; once you've come to terms with their typical issues--foggy glass, sluggish shutters, leaky bellows, overlapping frames--they'll reward you with a truly amazing image quality, especially those with Tessars or Tessar-like lens constructions such as the Xenar or Solinar. There is also something to be said for the charm of photos produced by a nice old triplet lens.

There is also something to be said for the charm of photos produced by a nice old triplet lens. I didn't mean to depreciate triplet lenses. I have a Novar Anastigmat on my 6x9 Zeiss Nettar, and it is by no means a bad lens. Here's an example: I guess there is a special charm to medium format in general, Mike, and I remember encountering it even in some B/W photos made with rattletrap Chinese Seagull TLRs or plastic Holgas...Michael

Maybe it's not wide enough or long enough. I prefer 28-105 zooms myself. PF
