This rather nice lens arrived today from a UK seller and for once, a sensible price was asked...
What has surprised me is that a quick test showed that the AF lens is sharper wide open than the MF version in a C/Y mount; on the face of it, the optical formula appears the same so I'm at a loss to explain it. Build quality of this lens is high and both MF and AF are smooth in operation.
So, finally it's possible to cover the entire range from 24mm to 400mm...

Well, Graham, there are always build variances to account for. And I would think what you mean by a "quick test" is that you put them on a digital camera, which may or may not have involved an adapter. More variance to consider. Then there is the difference between imaging on film, and a digital sensor. Your results may reverse when doing a film test with no adapters involved. But I'm hoping for you that it works just as well on a film camera.
