My Latest toys come from the Pentax stable. My first 'proper' SLR was a secondhand Pentax MX, in a fit of nostalgia I've recently bought a nice black one (mine was Chrome). I've also got the Winder which I never managed to get hold of first time round and the SMC-M 50/1.4 which I loved back in the '90s. I never quite got that K1000s were more valuable than the MX as both the smaller size and greater versatility of the MX (DOF preview, winder, motor drive, changeable screens) make it a much nicer camera in use. I also stumbled on a decent LX body for a good price so added that and a 28/2.8 as well. Both cameras are sort of usable but will definitely benefit from a good service, luckily we have two excellent options for servicing Pentax bodies here in London, there seems to be little to choose between Asahi Photo and Harrow Technical. Total cost of the set to date £185 which seems pretty good to me. Anyhow - the pictures; On a separate note I have finally loaded my half frame FX-3 with film and hope to shoot some this weekend...

Very nice cameras and lenses bp_reid, the black MX is no so common, and an amazing price, especially when a LX is involved, but I would take the MX any time even when the LX is the top of the line.

I'm with you on the MX vs LX. However £75 for a very tidy LX albeit with early signs of 'sticky shutter' seemed too good to pass up when we have a choice of very well regarded Pentax repairers in the London area - Harrow Technical and Asahi Photo.
Edit: I also just added an SMC 35-70 f/2.8-3.5 via eBay, mostly paid for by Nectar vouchers which will round the set out nicely!

WOW! Congratulations!
I guess we'd all appreciate a short review if you find the time, PF.

Will do. Today would have been perfect, but I spent the afternoon talking to the salesman in the local store about Nikons. He has me convinced I want/need a D500 (which I did before I walked in the door) since it is on sale, and you get a free battery grip ($440 item) with it. It's coming up with the $1800 plus the governors cut that puts the kibosh on that idea. I've got other things that need taken care of right now, like the lens I sent off yesterday to Leica USA for repair. Can't wait to see what that bill is going to be.

My "toys"? They are Made in China, Minolta SLR "clones". There are dozens and dozens. Here is just one -- a BRAUN SR2000 MD. It is a very nice, well-made camera with two special features. First, it has speeds of B and 1 - 1/2,000, hence the designation SR2000. It has a metal, vertical shutter that, surprisingly, does not need batteries to operate. It also has a super-easy multiple exposure button which naturally falls under the second finger of your right hand. And it has TTL metering with ISO settings from 25 - 3200. Flash synch is at a fast 1/125. It's metered manual exposure mode shows three red and green LED's in the viewfinder. The top LED is a red +, while the bottom LED is a red -. A green LED will light in the middle if the exposure is correct -- by adjusting either the shutter speed, the f-stop or both. It's fast and simple, but their is no exposure display of the shutter speed or the f-stop in the viewfinder. However, the viewfinder does sport a 45 degree split-image rangefinder, as well as a microprism collar. The camera also has a stop down button, self-timer, hot shoe and X-synch plug. There is no motor-drive option, however. It is normally seen with a 28-70mm (f3.4-4.8) zoom lens. The body is available in champagne, silver or black plastic. Many of these cameras were sold with a C/Y mount. More details at: www.subclub.org/minchin/

I have a Minolta Dynax 505si Super and it is like a toy, the body is very light, but with all the functions, very complete for a "budget version", just bought it to try that system and do not have any complains, but not convinced about autofocus, it is not for me so I will sell it soon. And speaking about the devil, here another nice Minolta:

You can never have too many X700's, Ariel. PF I was not fully convinced when saw it, too much plastic, but when started to check all its functions, the big bright finder with all the info, and the ridiculous low price, I had to buy it. And after the first field test I was fully convinced, the prime lenses are very sharp (usual with Konica and Minolta) and handling/using the camera can't be easier.

My most recent toys...
At last - a black TVS-Digital and a silver i4R...now I'm happy! That TVS-D may be slow and nicknamed the Contax digital brick (it is a bit like a titanium brick) but the picture quality from the Zeiss glass is great, even at such a low pixel count.
That black i4R always travels with me, often in the company of a SL300 RT, as they fit so easily into pockets, and there's no delay in start-up; not something you can say about the TVS-D!.

Nice and strange (for me) collection you have there, I was not aware about the Contax line of digital products, and all of them in excellent condition.

Hi ariel, Thank you for your comments. There is one other Contax digital camera - the U4R - which operates like the SL300RT but I'd only have one if it was gifted as reviews were poor and people preferred the quality of the earlier SL300RT. I suppose I should try one before I condemn it but they are hard to find and people ask wholly unrealistic prices for them in any condition. And then of course there is the Contax N-Digital; the first full frame DSLR in 35mm guise. It was ahead of its time but used the unpopular N-mount, cost a fortune in development and as a consequence led to the end of the Contax (and Yashica) marque.
