Brethren, any first-hand information on that one anybody? Except one very basic assessment (saying it is a pretty good lens yet giving no details, let alone sample pics) I could not find anything on the web. I'm asking because I just bought above item off eBay, in mint condition, the seller claims, at a ridiculously low price.

Nope, I've got the MC 28-80 3.9-4.9, Michael. Can't recall as I've used it, though it would have been a few years ago.

It's a very good lens indeed! Along with the 50 1.9, it's one of the DSB stars. Sharp, pretty good contrast, reasonable control of distortion, excellent build quality and capable of delivering some blistering images. I'd recommend the use of a wide-angle hood as flare can be a problem but the lens is great - it's pretty close to the performance of the ML 28-85. If it is in mint condition you should not be disappointed, especially as you got it for a bargain price. In its day it was one of the more expensive lenses in Yashica's range and many people still ask a high price for one.

After a regular odyssey caused by a postman with limited literacy skills, the lens finally arrived today. It is truly pristine and unused and looks as if it had left the factory only last week. Funny feeling, almost like time travelling...
Look and feel is great, solid build quality, not too bulky either. Testing for optical quality is going to take a while though as there are so many other fish to fry at the moment. Oh, yes, just one thing--the word "macro" in "Macro Zoom" is a joke, but I guess you can't have everything...

Macro is a highly relative term when it comes to zoom lenses. Sometimes it's at the short end, sometimes at the long end, but in reality is more like "close focus".
