Fixed Shutter Speed of 125th Flash Sync. That's the downside, of course, but I guess I could live with it. After all, where else would you get a half-frame SLR with interchangeable lenses?

Something else I just thought of, is that the camera was modified for document copying, and with the set of lights used, a certain aperture and shutter speed combination were all that were needed. So the camera and lens may have been locked at those settings, so no one could fiddle with them.

We shall no doubt soon hear from Barry whether it is any good.

I'll be interested to read Barry's comments. I was keeping an eye on the camera but decided not to bid as I wasn't convinced about the film transport mechanism and whether you could get double the exposures.
A couple of police forces here in the UK used half-frame modified Yashica FX-3s to record the faces of people under arrest. Those were professionally modified bodies; the shutters were locked at 1/125 because they were intended for use inside the police station using a flash unit. Furthermore, the police special cameras had the wind lever removed and a rotating knob was used instead; also the self-timer was removed as was the light meter.
I understand that Yashica in Hamburg arranged the modifications though I assume they were carried out in Japan. They formed part of a range of Contax/Yashica 'special systems' cameras which included the Contax RTS Fundus, 139 Scientific and CGCM along with a variety of other heavily modified SLR and rangefinder bodies (mostly Yashica) for use in science and medicine.
Sorry I don't have a better piccie than this:
