Based on the above, I cannot justify the higher prices for Zeiss glass..

The ML shows a reduced contrast in the top image but is otherwise a good performer. The young lady makes a delightful subject and you have produced some excellent images. Top: ML 135 C, Bottom: Sonnar 2,8 135

Some very pleasant images there. On the CZ v ML debate; One point I find important for a Canon guy like me the Zeiss glass matches better with my 24-70/4L & 16-35/4L lenses. This makes the use of jpegs easier for me, where the cool/neutral rendering of the ML glass will need adjusting. NB this is one of the reasons I really don't like olympus glass - there is a definite cyan tint so, in spite of the OM 24/2.8 being 'best in class' I got rid of it really fast).

@ biggles3 :
True, the top image shows reduced contrast, due to backlighting. The bottom ( Zeiss ) picture is not taken in the same strong backlit situation. Scharpness and bokeh are just fine imho... I bet this ML does deliver in less tricky circumstances.

The ML C is a perfectly competent performer under most conditions and better than many in tricky ones too!
Your post reminded me of a comparative test carried out by a German photo magazine a long time ago (sadly not including a Yashica lens) of 135mm lenses along with their dedicated tele converters; you can see from the attached image just how good the Zeiss Sonnar was judged as it aced all the others including the much-praised Leica lens...

It is a well-known fact over many decades now, that Zeiss Lenses are typically a bit sharper than their Leica Counterparts, also being cheaper...than for example these horrible M-Mount Leica Lenses. I do love my Zeiss lenses, and i was being a Zeiss Fan since my Kids Days, when i put my Nose on Camera Gear shop windows, being lured by these wonderful Zeiss & Yashica ML C/Y lenses, and wondering how-to use them...what a picture with these and a Contax 137, Contax RTS Series would be like...i do also own some Minolta MD lenses, and various others...including CZJ (Carl Zeiss Jena - M42 Mount) but i've never had the same "Connection", feeling than with my C/Y Lenses...with any others, 'til nowadays...yet. They're well built from the materials & haptics, and deliver great Image Quality. I dislike lenses with Plastic body, and also miss the Aperture Ring onto current lenses...
