Hello Yashicafans,
i do have bought a backup copy of my 75-150/4 ML, but here is the thing: it looks like new, no fungus, scratches, etc...but near the Mount, the aperture ring can flip horizontally about 3-4mm, and i don't know how to fix this - never had a issue like this with my ML Lenses.
Otherwise, it seems to work, the aperture blades open & close without delay, also no oil onto the blades...but what really keeps me nervous is this aperture ring horizontal shift, on my 1st copy, it's like on all ML lenses fixed, can't be shifted some mm up or down.
How-to fix this? Are there any screws loose?
thanks Marc

Hi lenslover,
Can you take some photos of the ring - one in the normal position and some showing how far it moves horizontally? That would be helpful; it is not a problem I've come across before on a Yashica lens but it does sound like something is broken. Probably the only way to find out is to remove the mount and you'll need a good JIS screwdriver to have a chance of doing that without damaging the cross-heads on the screws.

Thank you Guys, especially Graham - well, the thing is...i've seen a bargain, and really had that weird thought "what if the aperture ring is loose?!" onto the pictures, it looked perfect..when i received the lens from postal service 2 days ago, it was exactly like this: the aperture ring is loose, that was one really weird thought, and it came true... At Graham: It really moves about 3-4mm up & down, something i never ever encountered onto all my Yashica ML lenses, so something about this must be broken..but the thing is, the ring works, as long as i don't shift it up and down...very strange...indeed. I've just made two quick Snaps with my D60 Nikon floating around here. edit: Hope one can see the Difference, look at the inner lens tube, it moves about ~3mm...that's because the Aperture Ring can flip horizontal this way, which isn't normal. Onto my other 75-150/4 ML Copy, the Ring is fixed, as usual...as on any other Yashica ML lens here. Greetings, Marc

Well that's GREAT !!!! Lesson learned. Namely that THOUGHTS CREATE. You just manifested a lens with a loose aperture ring, by just thinking it into existance... :-) Really, I mean it!! Powerfull stuff.

The only thing I can think of is remove the aperturering and the mount and try if You can attach it somehow in a way other than it is mounted now, so the gap disappears. Maybe someone tried to fix it and has put it back together the wrong way. Maybe there is another way of putting it together again.

Not really, tts...but things often came the way i've thought it would. So, please being serious, there must be something wrong, loose screws here or broken into something.

Are these screws the orignal ones? Maybe they are to long?

I do think so, the lady who sold this lens just used it...the zoom doesn't look like it had been altered.

Looking at your photos, it looks like the lens may have been disassembled in the past as some of the screws' cross-heads show signs of use as does one of the indents on the retaining ring for the rear element.
Can you please take a piccie in the same orientation as the one below...

Likely it's been serviced, and a spacer ring was left out on reassembly. Mine does not have anywhere near that much play in it.
