I really love the 3.5/70-210 SP: adaptall-2.com/lenses/19AH.html And I used the cheap 28-70 for all my old non-Contax-stuff, which was quite OK. Lately I fell over the SP 28-135, which appears to be a very good lens. And together with the 159 its a well-balanced combination. I am dreaming of adaptall-2.com/lenses/63B.htmlInteresting... I am hunting a 28-135 at the moment as it seems to be an ideal lens to sit between my 24-48 & 80-200. A standard zoom so not for C/Y bodies, rather for my Pentax MX & Olympus OM-4 where I am totally, absolutely, definitely not going to buy into the lens lines beyond what absolutely necessary...

@barry_r: I use the 28-135 as a standard lens for some old gear, like M42, KONICA, which I sometimes use. The TAMRON SP 28-85 (performs well) and the TAMRON 35-135 (Non SP, never used by me, caught with some camera), were sold in the meantime.

Thanks for the input Matthias!
As so often, searching ebay for one thing leads to another, I now have a 90/2.5, extension tube & 500/8, but still no 28-135...

I just found this rarity - the full kit for the Tamron SP 90mm f2.5 Macro (later version). I had forgotten it was in a storage box and was looking for a Fuji 6x8 lens (which I did not find ) when I spotted it. I have another of them - the original one also with the Extension Tube - but I had no recollection that I bought a full kit which includes not just the bespoke hood but also Tamron-branded cleaning cloths and a water spray - which is still full!
Tamron SP 90 2.5 full kit
Next, I'm going to grab an old FX-1 and take some film out of the fridge and get ready for a few snaps - it's a favourite lens.

Thanks for the input Matthias! As so often, searching ebay for one thing leads to another, I now have a 90/2.5, extension tube & 500/8, but still no 28-135... I just checked, and there are about a dozen Tamron 28-135mm lenses on EBAY right now. Check it out at:
They vary in price, quite a bit!
I recently bought a very nice Vivitar 28-210mm. I had been looking for their 28-200mm model, and then, much to my surprise, I discovered that Vivitar made a 28-205mm model and a 28-210mm version. They all look exactly the same. I nabbed the 28-210mm one for about $20. 72mm filter thread, f3.5/5.6. Like new.

The bay prices on the 28-135 tend to be quite high for what it is but one did come up at an acceptable price and condition. I now have a nice rounded out set (24-48, 28-135, 90, 80-200 & 500) to use across my film SLR collection. With the Tamrons it's so much less tempting to pick up lots of lenses across multiple mounts plus it's much cheaper and easier to buy and store a few adaptalls for each system.

About a week before Christmas I spotted a Tamron 70-150mm on eBay for £20 BIN which turned out to be the #51A 70-150/2.8 SP SOFT so I went for it then read the description after. I was rather anxious that the seller might cancel but it arrived today. It’s a bit rough and, unfortunately, all of my cameras and mounts are in storage as I prepare to move home, but it’s an interesting little addition to my Tamron set. It has the Tamron SP build and feel but is surprisingly compact given the fast aperture. I can offer a reasonable and quick fix for rubber lens grip cleanup, bp_reid ... citrus-based Goo-Gone and a soft bristle toothbrush. The combo is cheaper than most of the rubber restoring products, and works better (IMHO), plus all the other uses they handle make them worthwhile additions for any workbench.

That's a great find at an even greater price. I wish I was that lucky. MERRY CHRISTMAS, MR. LAWRENCE!

I dug out my tamron Adaptall-2 Eos mount for a couple of quick test shots with the 70-150mm, the following is of my wife's Christmas table centre flower arrangement using SOFT 3 which looks pretty good for the flowers, although the Halo around the white swan head isn't great. I also made some test shots to see how sharp it is and they were much duller but showed very good levels of detail indeed. Really quite an impressive bit of glass. Five and a half years after my first post regarding MM tabbed Adaptall-2 mounts, I’m having a London bus moment - not just one, but three popped up on eBay over recent days. Unfortunately it has required the purchase of a couple of lesser lenses and an 01F converter, oh well…

And that 01F is a very good converter; it would almost be churlish to complain about having to buy one... So, time to pop a few of your favourite SP lenses onto an appropriate body and enjoy yourself...

It's not that often that photographers completely fail to grasp the inherent qualities of a good lens but that's exactly what happened to Tamron's SP 300mm f5.6 Tele Macro. The photo below shows 3 of them alongside Tamron's still popular SP 500mm f8 mirror lens. Tamron SP 300 and 500 The Tele Macro will focus from infinity to 1:3.3 Macro ( 1:1.85 with the SP 2x Converter) and contains spherical aberration compensation elements which render near perfect imaging during extreme close-up work. For some reason, photographers back in the day failed to understand the exceptional nature of IQ that the compensation group added to the lens. A lot of togs rushed to grab the lovely little SP 350mm f5.6 reflex lens and the long 300mm languished on the shelves; no doubt its premium pricing didn't help. Those with very deep pockets grabbed the superb SP 300mm F2.8 - this lens was in a sort of no-man's land. Eventually the word trickled out from nature specialists about how good it was for macro work, especially where it was desirable to maintain a distance between yourself and the subject being photographed. Although as a telephoto it's on a par with the excellent ML 300mm f5.6, its macro capability makes it a much more versatile choice. The SP 300mm is a brilliant lens and won't disappoint. And thankfully, as it still is not fully appreciated, it can be bought very cheaply.

If I hadn't recently found a Sigma XQ 300mm f4.0 (YS-mount) for $20, I might be interested. Mine carries the dandy Spiratone label, but otherwise is the same. A hunk of glass, for sure. They also sold a MACROTEL version which is the same lens but focuses to 1/4X. I mentioned this in another thread recently: yashica.boards.net/thread/1175/odd-massive-m42That 350mm CAT is nice, but out of my ballpark. Somehow I survive with a very petite Makinon 300mm f5.6 CAT. Thanks for the pix.
