Of course, in this sub-group, quite a few Tamron lenses will feature and nearly all will have an Adaptall mount. The 17mm f3.5 is worthy of the SP designation and is a match for Zeiss 18mm f4.
This is a much sought-after true super-wide-angle lens and prices are moving north. The model 51B is the one people are chasing as it has filters built into it which makes life a lot easier for people looking to shoot mono; the 51BB is the later model but lacks the filters. The in-built filters are 81B, R60 (not 80B as stated on the Adaptall 2 website) and Y2.
The trickiest issue for anyone buying this lens is the hood - they're near impossible to find and because of this, people are asking crazy prices for them. As I have several Zeiss lenses that require the 70/86mm Adapter Ring, I'm lucky and the photos show the ring along with a 86m filter - if you need a ND or polarising filter, this is the best way to provide it but any good quality 86mm filter is not going to be cheap. Is the cost worthwhile? Absolutely - this lens has an enviable reputation and at f5.6, its sharpness edge-to-edge is exemplary. I have had no chroma issues with this lens.

I know it has a good rep but when I had a 51BB it didn't play at all nicely with my A7r. In fact I'd say it's the second worst lens I have used on it (the worst being a C/Y fit Sigma 35-70/2.8-4).

It is interesting to note how the different sensor arrays used in digital cameras impact on the light transmission of certain lenses, especially old ones intended for use with film. I have a couple of lenses that work superbly on my full frame Canon and Fuji X bodies but not on 4/3 or m4/3 and others that perform well on a Fuji X-T1 and X-M1 but not the X-A1... I had a Model 51BB before I managed to find the 51B and wasn't too pleased with the results on my EOS 1Ds MkII...
