I took the liberty to both introduce, and test the functionality of, this new sub-forum by quoting your assessment of above-mentioned lens, Graham. Further contributions will be greatly, and gratefully, appreciated...

It's bad to see into some way people praise lens xyz...because the price will raise shortly after that... It's the same with mflenses, dpreview forums. Nice to see this subforum.

I don't actually see how a specialized little forum such as ours would contribute to those developments, but dpreview and mflenses, or even apug, play in a different league, of course.

As this post is about the Sigma 24mm Super-Wide II, I thought I'd kick off with a comparative photo of the Sigma and ML lenses.
As you can see, the Sigma extends to provide a macro ratio of 1:4 and is more compact and of lighter construction than the all metal-bodied ML. One other benefit the Sigma offers, that the eagle-eyed will have spotted, is that it is an MM lens, signified by the green f22 and the tab at the back. It is delightfully sharp and can still be had for a bargain price.

Just to help illustrate the quality of the little Sigma 24mm f2.8 Super Wide II, a couple of photos taken today in the dark, damp atmosphere of SE Wales...
100% crop at f2.8
Not bad eh? It won't set the world on fire but it's a pretty good performer open wide..

It's not only sharp but it has an MM pin so works in all modes on Contax bodies. Even better it is still quite cheap for a 24mm.

The II (Mark II) Generation is the better one, i do have both, since a way long time. Sigma Mini Wide II and Super Wide II. Mini Wide is 28mm, Super Wide 24mm.

I just discovered that I have a Sigma Super Wide II 24mm f2.8. I have never used it, so I thought I should sell it.
My favorite 24mm is a Kiron 24mm f2.0. I had used a Minolta Rokkor-X 24mm f2.8 for many years, but after testing the Kiron 24mm f2.0, I sold the Minolta -- no complaints with the Minolta at all, but the Kiron is one stop faster. Leica even chose the Minolta 24mm f2.8 for its SLR camera lenses.
But now I have to decide between my Kiron 24mm f2.0 and my Sigma Super Wide II 24mm f2.8.
Thanks a lot "guys" for making my life easier!
