Nice work dragos,
Always delighted to know another 70-210 f4 user and I'm very glad that you are enjoying its qualities.
I still place it right next to the Zeiss Vario Sonnar 70-210 f3.5 Macro T* lens is terms of quality which is itself the finest 70-210 lens ever made. I can't tell the difference between the images except for right at the edges of an image wide-open where the Yashica is slightly softer but I am nit-picking as it is so marginal as to being unworthy of mention. I had to blow the images up to A2 to see the marginal difference. Your images also demonstrate the Zeiss-like quality of the Yashica lens in that it has that 3D feel - the lady really pops out from the background...
I hope you continue to enjoy it for many years to come; it's already 37 years old and should still have a lot of life in it if well cared for.

Just bought one off German eBay, at the incredible price of 40 euros. I won't celebrate, however, until the article has arrived and been tested...

I spotted one lens last week marked as 70-210 f4 ML from a German seller but noticed that is was the DSB two-touch zoom and if I recall correctly, he was asking quite a few Euros for his misidentified lens. That you have managed to find one of the Holy Grails of Yashica lenses for 40 Euros leaves me green with envy as I paid a lot more for mine...
If it's a good copy, I'm sure you'll be delighted with the results.

What news of your ML 70-210 f4? Hopefully it has arrived by now....what do you think of it's image-making quality?

Graham,
please excuse my somewhat belated reply, but I've been rather busy lately.
Besides, you're touching upon ... erm ... quite an embarrassing matter here... (where’s the blushing emoticon??)
The thing is, I've been double-crossed of sorts, or rather, I allowed to take greed precedence over prudence and sound judgment --not registering that the eBay offer read "ML 70-210 f4" whereas the picture of the article clearly showed a DSB lens of identical specifications.
(The seller reacted immediately when he received my complaint and refunded the money without wanting the article back. I'm pretty sure this was not an error on his part as I saw a couple of similar discrepancies between descriptions and photographs on his shop's site, but I decided not to make a major fuss about the incident. After all, I feel that disappointment is but a rather mild sort of punishment for my own stupid blindness...)

I'm truly sorry that you have not yet had the pleasure of the ML - though the DSB is not a bad lens. At least the seller behaved correctly; what you have to hope for is someone who lists a DSB but no one else notices the photo shows the ML...

I guess that's what you folks would call 'hoping against all hope'...

Happens to everyone sooner or later, Michael. I try to be very observant while perusing the eBay ads, and recently I still missed that a particular lens I was buying was not what was advertised. It's just that the photos did not clearly show the markings, and even the seller (whom I have dealt with before) thought it was the other model. No problem, he sent a UPS pre-paid label for the item return, and refunded my money. I eventually got the lens I was looking for, but it took another two weeks of searching for the right price.

It's a real pain when that happens, but of course it can also work the other way. If you check the photos carefully of certain marques, you can also find gems that go unnoticed because they are not properly listed and the photos are poor quality. I picked up a ML 55 1.2 (it was listed as a 55 1:2), a Tamron SP 70-150 Soft Focus (listed simply as a vintage Tamron zoom), a Zeiss Mirotar 1000mm listed as a 'German Minotaur lens' and my all time favourite (not photographic) a Sheaffer Targa 'Fred Force Ten' by Joaillier - a stunningly beautiful fountain pen and ballpoint set that was listed in the US as an 'old but unused fountain pen with a twisted metal finish' and accompanied by an out-of-focus photo with such appalling white balance that the palladium/gold body looked copper in colour. That pen goes everywhere with me - I love the Targa nib.
In pursuit of matters Yashica, I spend about 3 hours each day on various Ebay and photographic retail sites around the world looking for oddities; sadly, a lack of funds means that one has to walk away from far too many of them but every so often, a bargain pops up.

I got my Yashica CC because it wasn't drawing any interest from the bidders, same with the GL. Box lots are a great source of little gems that get passed up by the general public for one reason or another.
