With unbelievably luck in same week after the 70-210 F4 i got the little brother of the monster, 35-70 F4. I like the construction, close to 28-50. Tomorrow i will make some test on my A7 ( i am out of Tetenal so no test on RX..yet )

Excellent examples! The ML 35-70 F4 is a great lens, a true alternative to primes. I have no idea why Yashica didn't make more of them. Btw, many copies seem to have aperture problems - at least oily blades. Is yours all right?

Some excellent images from an excellent lens! The f4 (and f3.5) lenses are, as paguru rightly says, easily capable of taking the place of primes, assuming of course that you don't need a wider aperture.
The Zeiss 35-70 has garnered all the praise for its superb image quality but as someone who has the three lenses, the Yashica glass is every bit as good although, under extreme lighting conditions, the T* coating is a bit better at handling flare. Interestingly though, the contrast produced by the ML lenses in normal light is as good as the Zeiss; that is not usually the case and when using them with digital gear I have experienced no significant chroma issues with these lenses on the Fuji X-series cameras or Olympus 4/3rd or m4/3rd bodies.
It is probably only the extreme rarity of these 40 year old Yashica 35-70 lenses that has prevented them from getting the rave reviews they deserve; 99% of photographers probably don't even know they exist. That is a good thing for us as it will help to keep their prices low. Grab one if you can....

At the end of this week I will have in my hands the f3,5 one, in like new condition. The irony is that I still don’t get the “regular one” 3,5-4,8

The ordinary "ML" 35-70/3.5-4.8 one (the one with 52mm Filterthread and all "Plasticky" build quality) is the worst of all (of these 35-70 ML Series). It's afaik built by Cosina, hence this neglible build quality back into the day. At last something better is the MC 35-70/3.5-4.5, which is just like a ordinary ML almost being build.
On top comes this 35-70/F4 ML, and then the 35-70/3.5 ML, which is the best of all 4 (!) iterations, both from IQ & build quality.

dragosThe "regular" one is currently onto ebay dirt-cheap..but i wouldn't bother, i have had this lens, and sold it quickly. It isn't worth to carry the "ML" name, for it's IQ and also build quality (plasticky) Even the MC 35-70/3.5-4.5 is really better, both from speed, lens quality and haptics (metal barrell). And this one, i've seen for as low as around 10-19 EUR onto eBay.

I managed to buy a 35-70 F4 ML for a bargain, it's into much better condition, than my copy i had before. It does look nice, only very subtle traces of usage.

I haven't seen a listing of one for sale at any price in at least the last 5 years, and I've been looking almost daily. That's a very nice find indeed. Congratulations! I'm starting to think these might be pretty scarce in the US.

Thank you Guys. Yes, it was by accident. Its into great shape. The description was from another 35-70, so i took my chance...i think that's why it turned off some buyers perhaps. I might made Pictures of it on the weekend, if time allows.
I still have my old Copy, which i never used, because as of the following condition: Lens only works from F4 to F8, F11, F16 is not working.
Perhaps someone like Lumiworx could easily fix that small aperture issue, and i would give that Lens away for not too much money of course, especially if somebody would being interested - but i don't have paypal, and i don't come from the US, nor UK. So it won't be that cheapskate with shipping, i am afraid.
It was an AddOn for my FR II back then, therefore i paid some cash extra for this Lens, with that aperture issue, Lenses are clean, no scratches, etc...as long as i could see, but the Lens barrel is a bit used, not by much. Both rings are into perfect shape.

I'm starting to think these might be pretty scarce in the US. I have two of these, one with slight aperture issues, which i'd sell, perhaps for 35 bucks (i paid 115 for this, and the seller wasn't being honest, telling me about the aperture issues at F11/F16) the other one is excellent, also have two mint copies of the 28-50/3.5 ML. I keep them. Other Yashica ML Lenses, i might sell a copy here & there.

I'm starting to think these might be pretty scarce in the US. I bought one on eBay earlier this year, but they are indeed very rare. This one had a stuck aperture with oily blades, so I sent it to Mark Hama-san for repair. Mark is the former service manager for Yashica USA, long retired, but runs his own camera repair business. This particular lens appears to have reliability issues. Of the two I've seen for sale in the past few years, both had non-functional irises.

I just received an ML 35-70 f4. I was concerned unnecessarily as it turns out about oily aperture as it appears and functions perfectly. Seems very sharp wide open with excellent contrast. Optics unmarked. Only curiosity is that it focuses beyond infinity by some margin. I’d be interested how typical this might be. When infinity is in focus the lens marker is between 5-10 meters. Hopefully this will only be an issue if zone focusing.

I have checked my copies and none appears to focus beyond infinity; have you also checked the minimum distance of 0.6m (2ft)? Is that accurate? And while I remember, congratulations on the Penta J with the gold lettering and that lovely Yashinon lens.
