I only got my RX five months ago from Fords in the UK for £179 - which I considered a bargain. I've seen a few being sold here in the UK by other reputable dealers for around £200. Still a good deal. All Contax bodies in the UK have been for a few years at least, a bit more expensive than similar counterparts from the Nikon, Canon etc.
The only other motorised Contax I own is the Aria. I find the RX considerably less frustrating to use. Principally the ease with which the ISO or drive mode can be altered. Perhaps there's an issue with my Aria but it can take 5 minutes at times to change the iSO !!

I dislike that the RX get hyped so much here, and into the End, prices are being pushed up, again. SCNR. I am using it since ca. 96, but i like much to have my manual film advance lever. Because the RX couldn't being repaired anymore - like the RTS III, Spare Parts are 2021 no more being avialable from Kyocera. No offense. A greeting. Hi lenslover No offence taken. Like you I enjoy the security and feel of a wind-on lever but of course if you need fast frame rates, a motor is always needed. In the early days, the motors were in the form of attachment drives which still allowed you to use a lever-wind when fast shooting was not necessary. After the Contax 159MM, the only Contax cameras with wind-on levers were the S2/S2b and the Preview II. And you are absolutely right - if the drive of the camera fails, spares are almost impossible to find (Mark Hama's company might be able to help) so you are left trying to find donor cameras and a talented repairer... It is deeply frustrating to lose the use of a camera for a minor fault that could have been easily resolved just a few years ago...Yes, i do know all of this, before i registered years ago here, into the board, i already owned a dozen of Yashica & Contax SLRs. The S2b - earlier this year, i could buy this baby for <600 EUR like new, mint condition. But i haven't had the money. Now at the end of 2021, it costs twice, almost. Very bad. And that is, like the Contax T2, about much talk about it -into talk shows from that celebrity, or about SLR/Lens xyz, into (many) Forums, and google finds it -so even ppl with absolutely no clue about the gear, can easily see what it's worth, thus that behaviour is raising prices worldwide, sad, but true. Because as we do like & love that old gear, newer generations also want to own it, but it's no more into production since decades, thus raising prices. It's simply market laws, supply and demand.

The more I look into it, the more it seems I'll end up getting signed up with an exporter for Yahoo Japan, just to access the items that don't make it onto ebay in the US.. A quick check at their auction site shows 92 items under Contax RX, with 9 of them being repair parts (275 Yen / $2.50 USD) or just brochures. Of all the bodies listed, the lower priced ones are the Junk types (roughly in the 5000-12000 Yen, $45-105 range), and working cameras of various condition, from 1400 Yen / $123 on up. Ebay US shows 68 items - all bodies or body/lens combos - with the same search for 'Contax Rx'. The prices are roughly the same for most of the working cameras listed in Japan, but there are almost no 'Junk' bodies included within them. There's a slight difference in the lowest price, but that's due to the free shipping to bump up the total to cover the seller's cost... and I'd assume the delivery date would be sooner, as there won't be a stopover by first sending it to the exporter service. The major differences in the listings seem to show that the parts cameras are more likely to come from Japan, and not from ebay in the US. It might be a similar outcome for all the EU ebay sites, so it might be worth a look to compare for each country. I certainly haven't seen anything close to $45 for an RX parts body in the States for many years, so it may be the best option if the requirement is in locating a donor.

Gooood! That is also my main 35mm film camera. I had last year also the RTS III and..i sold it, i love more the RX. Sometimes i have an issue, i don't know if is common, but is good to mention about it. There is a slight difference between focus confirmation of the camera, i mean the asistant in viewfinder, and the optical ( split) focus confirmation. At very close range i am confused, to trust in split focus confirmation ot to cameras digital confirmation. After carefully analyse of the camera i realized that the glue used for sticking the mirror is like cautchuc, dynamic. On hot weather, in the summer the mirror is getting down fey microns, sometimes one millimeter. My solution was many times to push little bit the mirror up and the focuses, both are at the same point. I will permanently fix this issue by replacing the glue of the mirror with some solid glue, like bison. I recommend you first to check if the split focus confirmation is the same with the digital one in viewfinder. ----------------------------------- pity when quoting original not seperated aquarium glue to repair mirror. i had to do on a 230 AF but hadnt better than double-tape......

pity when quoting original not seperated ... There are times when quoting an earlier post, the user's cursor will end up in the quoted section when starting a reply. Check to make sure it's below the quoted section before starting to type. and submitting the reply. It's fixable after it's submitted, but it requires using the "BBCode" tab of the reply textbox and modifying the underlying code, which can get a bit messy to easily understand and do.
