Hi guys! I'm wondering if there is a lens hood suitable for the 80-200mm f4, in a twofold sense:
is a hood really needed with this lens? is there a hood – a not original one – that can be adapted to this zoom lens, considering the high variation in terms of angle of field from 80mm to 200mm?
Thanks in advance for any kind answer.

Hi - if you check the photo attached, you will see the Yashica-recommended combination: Contax 55-86 Adapter Ring + No. 4 Lens Hood. I have this on my 80-200s BUT it can be quite expensive as the Contax lens hood system still commands quite high prices - especially on the internet. You don't need the Contax ring - there are cheap Chinese 55-86 adapter rings which will do the job perfectly and the No.4 Contax Hood is quite common - you can expect to pay the equivalent of £15-£35 pounds for the Hood depending on condition. However, there are loads of 55mm lens hoods - rubber, plastic or metal - with sufficient depth to cover the 200mm end of the lens without causing vignetting at the 80mm setting for around £10, especially on Ebay. There are rubber hood types called 'universal' which can be used fully extended or compressed (check out: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Phot-R-55mm-Universal-Collapsible-Rubber-Multi-Lens-Hood-for-Wide-Angle-Lenses-/251615517652?pt=UK_Photography_CameraLenses_Lens_caps_hoods_adaptors_ET&hash=item3a95741bd4) and some only cost £2-3. They'll do fine.
It is worth using a hood as the front element is very close to the end of the lens and even with a filter in place, you could get flare from bright light hitting the lens laterally - the hood will go a long way to prevent this.

Many thanks biggles3! That's exactly the answer I was needing. I will go for a rubber "universal" hood, because you're totally right: having the front element so close to the end of the lens flares are quite an issue.
Thanks again!

Do you know the recommended lens good for a 135mm 2.8 compact lens?
Also, it's interesting that they recommend that combination as I did some quick searching and it seems that for the Zeiss 80-200 they recommend that adapter with the contax no. 5 lens hood.

That hood is way big, and for my taste over the top, no offense. I'd use a cheap, rubber lens hood, foldable design. The Contax Hoods are for my Contax lenses, not Yashica.
