A DS-M 200mm showed up today, and although it's generally working for the moment, my gut tells me it may not be in as good a shape as it looks to be. The built-in hood won't stay in place when extended whenever the lens is close to being vertical, but I can deal with that part with hair ties or even flocking paper if it gets worse... my impending issue may be internal, so I'm trying to be preemptive before anything happens.
When unwrapped and inspecting it before cleanup, I notice a minute but consistent ring of leaking oil around the downward edge of the aperture ring on the barrel's face. There's no sticky aperture via either the DoF preview pin when pushed or when using the A/M switch to force it to stop down, but the amount it's showing is enough that I suspect someone has popped this open and done a sloppy aperture repair and added unneeded oil. I think it's already starting to migrate where it shouldn't be, and if the excess isn't bad enough on potential stickiness, the possibility of haziness from off-gassing bad oil is a worry as well.
The only long barreled prime I've ever opened was a Leica Hektor 135mm, and it was a piece of cake to get into, but in this case, I doubt my good luck will hold in the same way and I'm not sure where to start if I need to get inside this. Anyone ever tackle one of these before? This is in mint condition otherwise, and it would be worth the effort if it came down to needing a repair.
