It has been a struggle to find a NOS floppy disk for the DA-1 but at long last, this VF-5 has arrived. DA-1 VF-5 Floppy DiskIt will soon be time to take some fresh piccies with this very early digital model. It will be interesting to compare its output with that from the Yashica KC 600.

Look forward to seeing that comparison Are those discs similar to Canon VF50? Hi - I have no experience with the Canon video floppy disc so can't really comment other than to say that they appear to be the same physical size. Whether they have the same formatting is another matter...

Look forward to seeing that comparison Are those discs similar to Canon VF50? Hi - I have no experience with the Canon video floppy disc so can't really comment other than to say that they appear to be the same physical size. Whether they have the same formatting is another matter... My guess would go along with biggles3 idea, and the disks could be interchangeable between makers. This would be similar to the 3.5 inch floppies that can be used on a MAC or a PC, where the only distinction is in the digital formatting used for each operating system. If you switch them into another camera, it may only need to be reformatted to get it working. There's a wiki article with pictures and more detail, but it doesn't mention Kyocera as a compatible brand, so it might come down to whether the disk itself matches the Sony standard VF disk. Going by the white-boxed "VF" on the label, it appears to indicate they might be compatible... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_FloppyI'm usually not a big fan of 'swoopy' and rounded case designs, but the DA-1 doesn't go overboard with it, and in borrowing the basic color scheme of the Contax bodies, it does look rather nice. EDIT: It looks like the disk are the same, but the formatting is unique to the Kyocera DA-1. More details: www.digitalkameramuseum.de/en/cameras/item/kyocera-da-1

Hi lumiworx My understanding is that the dedicated Kyocera disc reader converts the images into a unique format which is for internal use by the camera. It allows the photos to be sent to a computer via a special connecting cable, again unique to the DA-1. The absence of any part of the kit will render the images taken unreadable. Finding a DA-1 is relatively easy; finding the vital accessories is nigh impossible unless you can buy a boxed set... Thankfully, Yashica's KC 600 uses CompactFlash cards...so much simpler.
