Here's something I'd not come across before:a Yashica Rangefinder. From the look of it, I'd guess this dates from the early to mid 1960s; it's pictured with a Half 17. Half 17 w RangefinderIt's in need of some adjustment and as I've never attempted to tweak this sort of rangefinder before, this could be fun....

The rounded corners and the curvish foot are distinctive. Most are rather utilitarian looking where form follows function. If you do have to crack the case open to get it back in working order, it would be interesting to find out if it uses glass prisms or silvered mirrors... or maybe even both.

I'll let you know; it may require several drams of The Macallan 10 Year Old malt whisky before sufficient courage is attained to allow the tear-down to start...

I don't think you will need too much. My guess is that's it's rather straightforward, and the cover might come off easily without disturbing anything.
The one I have -- I don't recall the name, but it's probably of the same era -- has an adjustment screw in the middle of the rotating distance dial on the back side. Perhaps yours does, too.
Did you get it with a box or anything else? Neat find!!!

Did you get it with a box or anything else? Neat find!!! Hi xkaesThanks. No - it came naked; it would have been great to find a box. If this was made by Yashica, the chance of finding another in the UK is pretty remote but I'm going to spend a few hours checking through rangefinders on the web to see if there's a similar one out there. If so, I'll try to grab it so that I can carry out a dry run without risking damage to the Yashica finder. There's no adjustment screw to the rear of the unit but I have noticed two tiny, tiny screws at one end on the underside which don't look like retaining screws... Hopefully all will become apparent when I've been able to remove the casing. However, first I'll have to buy the smallest flat-head screwdriver I can find to handle those two miniature screws - looks like I'll need a durable set of jeweller's screwdrivers...

I would have guessed that you were all set, already. They come in handy, but the inexpensive ones are easy to bend at the tip.

Here's something I'd not come across before:a Yashica Rangefinder... Nice find!... first time I see one, and with that typography (not sure if the correct word, typeface maybe?... about the type of letters used for the brand name). Is it in imperial or metric system?... or both?

Hi Ariel It is a very old font/typeface - I would think it's no later than the early 1960s. The distance scale is metric only.
