Unfortunately none of my notes on any retail kits are from the AF era, so all I know for certain is what's evident from the kit itself. The box has a large printed label that's seems commercially printed and not typed out by a user/collector, and certainly isn't like the earlier purpose-designed and pre-printed kits like the Christmas or Travel kits, where everything gets screen printed right on the outer box itself. It's unknown if these were factory kits, or were something assembled by distributors or the retailers themselves, but I can say for sure that the interior compartment of the box has extra and ample space for inserting promotional goodies similar to the hat meant to be included with this particular kit. I did receive the beige and black "Yashica for Yashica" strap as part of the listing, so I suppose it's possible that it may have been a kit item from some other bundle, as I've never seen another one like it before now. If you might have another one of these kits tucked away, I'd be interested in knowing any further details that surrounds these mystery kits... The cap is a pretty standard adjustable golf cap, and uses the cheaper plastic post-n-hole resizing band, so it's not anything terribly special aside from the embroidered branding. The strap on the other hand, is pretty unique in a few ways. The strap lugs are the J-hook type, and not just the standard method of slipping the small strap ends of the nylon ribbons through the strap slots on the camera - and the riveted black joining piece between the two sizes of strapping are rigid plastic, and not the usual leather/pleather/vinyl transition piece you'd normally expect to see.

Week 68? Now what would that mean?

Hi lumiworxThat's a fascinating find. I certainly don't recall seeing any reference to a special set for the Yashica 230AF in any of the European trade catalogues or price lists. Like bobblehat I find the reference to 'week 68' intriguing; how many organisations run inventory or plan promotions way beyond 52 weeks...other than huge retailers like Target back in the day... That braided cord on the cap is unusual; I suspect that they're US- or Japan-only items. The strap's J-hook lugs are reminiscent of the original ones that came with the Contax RTS and Yashica FR but lacking their plastic covers over those metal shanks which could certainly damage the camera's finish. Is the outer box the same as the standard one for the 230AF or are the printed graphics golf-orientated?

Thanks for the question, Graham. Until you asked, it didn't even occur to me that the photo inserts might have been different. Of the 4 shown on the outer 'Kit' box, there's one each of... windsurfers on the ocean, a country estate 'driveway shot', a beachside scene with a bikini-clad model and palm trees, and a very wide angle parasailing shot from an ocean to shore view.
The same 'Week 68' label is duplicated on the opposite end of the carton, and I just tried scanning the UPC code on the price sticker - $399.95, by the way - and a quick web search on the "000000049375" number found no matches on any of the UPC lookup sites or a standard web search for any reasonable product match. Unfortunately there's no branding at all on the price tag to indicate the point of sale.
I'm really perplexed by the Week 68 phrase too, and it's inclusion on the label doesn't seem to mean anything if I'm reading it as a customer in a photo or department store. I should also mention that the two inner boxes are the generic factory ones for the 230AF body, and the 35-70mm lens. Other than the usual "Yashica USA Golden - 3 year warranty" stickers, they have no added clues or links to them being 'kit' items.
