After stumbling across the archived original of Yashica's battery chart, I've found a couple of interesting entries, and what looks to be a missing camera, i.e., the M.E. 1000. It shows up in the section titled, "Technical Cameras"... Technical Camera Model * Release Date * Orig. Batt. * Substitute
Dental Eye * 1987 * 4 x AA Dental Eye II * 1989 * 1 x 2CR5 M.E. 1000 * 1985 * 1 x 2CR5 biggles3 noted a Kyocera branded camera with a Medical/Dental 100 macro lens attached that was reminiscent of the Dental Eye III, but that model might have been produced far too late and may not meet the 1985 release date noted in Yashica's own timeline above. A quick web search doesn't come up with many detailed matches, and unfortunately the only provided archive pages are from April 16th or July 11th of 1997 - and both show the exact same model name and dates. A magazine ad from the Jan.1996 issue of Popular Photography provides only a text listing and price... ... and one more from the Oct 1996 issue, calls it a M.E 1000 Macro Eye... Anyone with an idea on what a M.E. 1000 really is, or whether the dates might actually be incorrect as 1985 on the battery page and it might be the model posted by biggles3?

Hope this helps rather than being a red-herring, but I found this in my archive dated 1978 (same date as Yashica Diary release) .... I suspect biggles3 will come along with the best explanation

Thanks bobblehat I'd not seen that editorial on the DX Medical/Dental 100mm lens before; very interesting (from which publication does it come?). It shows the early (1976) version as the later, standard production models had a different power-pack. The much later M.E. 1000 remains an enigma as I have no confirmed illustration of one. The fact that it has the same catalogue price as the Dental Eye would lead to me to expect that is essentially the same kit. I have no doubt it uses the same lens but the camera and accessories may be different, along with the branding on the carrying case. But until we actually see one, it's all guesswork... I'm really sorry I can't be of more help.

With both the Dental Eye II and the M.E. 1000 having matched prices in both those ads, I have a suspicion that it's not the Medical 100 lens on an otherwise standard SLR body and sold in a bundled kit -but- that's just a guess. My gut (or my peptic ulcer) is telling me the production date from the chart is likely wrong, and the actual date is 1995 instead of 1985... and the camera posted by Graham might well be the ME 1000.
I'm puzzled by the '1000' in the name, but Kyocera had a habit of screwing around with names under their own label and duplicating models under Yashica branding, so I wonder if that's the case with this mystery model too.
EDIT... posted after Graham ...

Hi Biggles3 ..... I have to admit I poorly documented where I got this from, other than I have filed it in a folder that suggests it came from a Contax/Yashica official Newsletter. I certainly looks the right style for C/Y newsletters from that era.
I agree with you lumiworx, I too thought that the date could be wrong. If it is closer to 1995 than 1985, it would explain why, at some time in the past while compiling my "Yashica Family Tree Chart", I subtitled the Dental-Eye II (108MP) as the Macro Eye 1000. I am trying to find what evidence I came across (15 years ago!) as to why I connected the Dental-Eye II (1990) to the ME1000 ..... if I have any luck finding anything, I'll post it here.

Hi bobblehat It's definitely 1995 as the ad below B&H's states: ' T4 Super NEW' which I'm pretty sure was released that year, as shown in your excellent chart.
