Here we can see a lens from the time of the launch of the Contax/Yashica system: the DSB 24mm f2.8 DSB 24mm f2.8I have looked through all the US and European brochures from the time of the introduction of the Yashica FX-1/FX-2, Yashica FR/FRI, FRII and the Contax RTS; it does not feature. I know of one member of this Forum who has 2 copies of this rarity; it seems they did not sell them in most markets. What will be interesting is to make the comparison of image quality between the DS-M, DSB and ML versions. This will be one of the next tasks.

The 24mm is my favorite perspective. If I were stranded on a desert island with just one lens, I'd hope it was a 24mm.
Let me guess -- 55mm filter thread?

While the DS-M and ML lenses use a 62mm filter, this little beauty has a 52mm thread, making it one of the smallest 24mm f2.8 lenses of its era. The later Yashica AF 24mm f2.8 had a 58mm thread. 24mm DS-M_DSB_MLI can't wait to try it...

I’m pretty sure it’s the late 80s RMC Tokina in disguise. If so it should be on a par with or slightly below the Tamron, so not as good as the Sigma Mini-Wide II or the Yashica ML.

That reminds me. I've got a Sigma Mini-Wide II 24mm around here someplace -- and I've never actually used it!!!!

Hello bp_reid and xkaes You are both spot-on in describing the Sigma Mini-Wide II as a top quality lens; it's a little gem and if the DSB is on a par, its compactness may make it favoured over the larger DS-M and ML versions. The only occasional issue I have with the Sigma is flare (its hood is an essential accessory) but one of the problems associated with the DSB lens' obscurity is an absence of any reference to Yashica's recommended hood. For the moment, I'll simply use the Sigma's hood on the Yashica lens...

Kyocera Lenses are different. Even it looks somehow similar, even it would be the same lens design, there is a variation of refractive index glass, and lens coatings, hypertheoretically, which makes all that difference.
The same internet rumor was with a specific RMC Zoom, the 28-85, which should being a Minolta MD 28-85 into disguise - dunno which guys are always creating for fun rumors like that, but the Tokina is worse, bad into IQ in comparsion, especially the edges, -corners.
