Having just uploaded an image of the Contax TLA480 with its PS-130 AC Power Unit, it seems only right that the granddaddy of them all should be shown too; so here goes.... Contax RTF540 AC PowerSitting alongside the Contax RTF540 flash head is the Real Time Flash 540 AC Power Unit. This delivers a whopping 360V DC through two connectors allowing two RTF540s to be powered simultaneously. It features a very long connecting cable to the flash and a long power cord, so moving about indoors is a breeze. The Contax RTF540 remains, imho, the most versatile flash ever built with its vast array of accessories and multitude of sync and power options provided in the head. I still keep 5 and they all continue to work even though my oldest is from 1978. The only issue is that if you are shooting a model, you need to warn her/him of the loud 'crack' it makes when firing at full capacity; it's pretty startling if you're not expecting it! I noticed that there's one of these AC Power Units being offered for sale right now BUT there's no connecting cable. Sadly, I lost one of mine many years ago and have never found one since; that's probably not helped by the fact that they don't bear the Contax name on them. The RTF540 offered a range of power options: AC, 510V dry cell and the regular 12 AA batteries. And its trigger voltage is low enough to allow it to be used on many modern electronic cameras.
