This is a very rare accessory set from 1980 - the Contax Touring Set. [ url=https://flic.kr/p/2mPUmYh]Contax Touring Set 1980[/url] This boxed set consists of a variety of camera supports: a tripod, a spike and various clamps, all branded ' CONTAX West Germany'. This set was sold with a second-generation Contax IR Remote Control Set. A tiny number of these boxed sets made their way to the USA but as far as I know, none got as far as Europe. Nearly all were aimed at the Japanese home market.

Hello @peterr ,
Thanks very much for the image of the Cullmann boxed set.
I always wondered who made the items as it was obvious that the Contax badge was applied post-manufacturing. Cullmann produced my favourite tripod back in the early to mid 1970s, although it weighed a ton...
Were you able to buy your Contax set in Europe as it took me decades before I found one? And was your one paired in a plain, white outer box with the IR Remote Control Set and a large lump of polystyrene? I never understood the Contax convention on using white boxes: they used them on large items like the Accessory Set for the TLA480 and small items such as the Luminar Adapter, 55mm Reverse Ring, 67mm Adapter Ring and the 7.5mm Extension Tube. The only common denominator I can imagine is that they are all low volume items so perhaps not worth the expense of a printed box...

These are the accessory gadgets I love to see. Purpose built and immensely useful for tricky mounting jobs where true stability is required. I've never seen anything like these until now, and before I'd even finished reading everyone's postings... I found and bought one of the Cullman sets on ebay. :)

Well, I'd never equated Contax Touring Sets with London buses before but it seems you can wait for 1 for ages and then 4 turn up at the same time. It's sobering to recall they were made over 40 years ago but all seem to have avoided the ravages of time...
