Other than the elusive Electro Half models, this completes my wish list for the series: the Electro 35 GX. Yashica Electro 35 GXAlthough missing its lens cap, case and strap, it's great to finally have one and in the harder to find black finish too. Dating from 1975, this was the last of the fast-lens Electro 35 models. It uses two 1.4v cells for its metering system which was upgraded from the previous model (CdS) to a Silicon Photo Diode making it much more responsive; thankfully it arrived with batteries installed. The lens is the superb COLOR YASHINON-DX 40mm f1.7 comprising 6 elements in 4 groups. Auto-flash is possible if using the dedicated Yashica ES-20 unit but I favour the Pro-50DX instead. This is a truly beautiful camera to use.

I'm not familiar with this model. It reminds me of the Minolta Hi-Matic 7sII, the Olympus 35RD, and the Canon Canonet QL17 GIII -- all from the same era: www.subclub.org/minman/leanmean.pdf

I have a Canonet QL17 which is about the same size as the original Electro 35. It is interesting to see how the move towards compactness developed and the photo below shows the alpha and omega of the Electro 35 models with those superb 45mm and 40mm f1.7 lenses. Electro 35_Electro 35 GXBoth cameras handle well but the AE on the GX, aided by being able to meter through any filter, plus a hot shoe make the model much more versatile, especially when shooting b/w film with colour filters.
