With photo gear, if there's no standard/default connection that most all makers adhere to, then most seem to leave it alone and 'play nice' and let every user dangle with an incompatibility. As soon as there's an opportunity to set their own type of XYZ standard, then it's a matter of brand lock-in, and nobody plays nice, because they don't want to adopt the same thing or somehow condone someone else's work and help create a new standard way to do things. I don't know if any of that would get classified as a coincidence... I'd just call it another way to screw up the marketplace so that nothing ever works together. Well, I'll amend that with one caveat - unless somebody pays the original creator for using XYZ, nothing works together.

I just took a look at the Contax TLA200. Looks like what I need, but it has two big strikes against it. First, it is manual only on a standard hot shoe camera, and the price tag is $200-$300. A quick look at EBAY reveals that several DOZENS of these has been sold in the last 90 days. There are apparently a LOT of Contax G users out there -- with extra cash.
It looks like I'll be stuck with my Nissin and Sears auto flash models with auto-exposure & a PC cord -- for 1/10th the price -- until I win the lottery.

There might be yet one more to consider, but for an entirely different reason. These are 2 battery models, so they aren't quite as small as the others - but - the foot is held in place by 4 screws, and would suggest that it could be easy to open for some minor surgery, or even flip it 180 degrees if needed. They were sold as unbranded, or under the JC Penny department store brand name, and pop up often. Usually under $15, so it's a matter of finding a working model in decent shape.

Thanks. That looks exactly like the Vivitar EZ10 -- which is no surprise. The EZ20 is also on my list, and my bet is that the flash shoe contact is on the wrong side -- but I can't say that for sure.
FYI, there are at least TWO "Sears Contax 50th Anniversary" flashes on EBAY right now. What a kick!
