dalegreer One other thing from the Pacific Rim Yashica/Contax price lists that I found most interesting is that the genuinely awesome Questar 700mm f8 Solid Cat lens was being sold as part of the C/Y range. I assume that meant a few were bought and a C/Y T-Mount added; I have never come across a 3rd Party lens being included in a Contax/Yashica catalogue before. I note there's one being sold on Ebay right now - definitely not a cheap offering for a 43-year old T-Mount lens... Was that one of the older catalogs, before Yashica stablished it’s own company-owned subsidiary in the United States in 1975? If so, a third party was distributing Yashica gear at the time and probably had some discretion on the merchandise they offered to dealers. I have a dreadfully horrible Vivitar 500mm CAT lens that came bundled with a T-mount-to-C/Y adapter. Maybe it was something like that? No - it's in the Yashica/Contax Confidential Dealer Price List 1980. It came as a big surprise but I suspect that it was a 'bulk' purchase of the lenses by Yashica in the USA which were sold with a C/Y mount attached which would explain why it was being offered without its case. By adding the mount and a standard Yashica rear lens cap. it would not fit into the Questar case. I'd love to know what people thought about paying a huge amount of money for a premium lens and finding it came without a protective case...

That Questar 700mm f8 is a beauty, but the price was always way beyond my means. I was lucky enough to find an in-some-ways-similar Vivitar Series 1 800mm f11 Solid CAT several years ago in the local newspaper. The 3-line classified ad, said it was "for Nikon". I knew better, and got it for $200 with case, filters, etc. It's heavier and slower than the Questar, but it works on anything.
I also suspect that the C/Y - Questar connection was a distributor thing. A similar connection happened with Fujinon and D.O. Industries. Some of the Fujinon lens price lists from D.O. would include a few non-Fujinon lenses.
