Someone on Ebay is selling this user's manual: I was not aware that such a device existed, but not sure if it was an original product from Yashica, there are few other brands with the same Transicorder TR-100 model, here is a video of the device working: I really like reel tape recorders, especially the Hi-Fi ones.

I saw one being used about 50 years ago while I was holidaying in the US. I only remember it because they guy who had it was taking piccies from the same vantage point as me and kept 'talking to himself' as I thought until I saw the microphone and big, leather carrying case. He explained that he used it as an aide memoire when taking piccies so that he could later match the photo with the camera's settings for his local camera club. I recall that he admitted that he 'borrowed' it from his employers at weekends and was always first in on Monday mornings to return it so no one would know it had been away. I'd not seen a portable reel-to-reel deck until then.

TR makes it sound like something from Radio Shack.

Your recorder looks to be in exceptional condition and it sounds great. It was made by Nippon Sound Equipment Co., Ltd in Japan in about 1963. Yashica sold it as the TR-100 and so did Nippon Sound.

There was also this Yashica TR-40 dating from the early 1960s. Yashica YTR-40I learned today from yashicasailorboy that it was essentially a re-badged Aiwa but Yashica added the speed-controller to their deck. The Aiwa deck was made from 1963-66 and was their model TP-32A.
