This is a pleasing sight - a tripod from the early 1960s complete with its case and chains! Yashica Tripod 1960sIt's the first time I have been able to get hold of one that still has its chains; it's in great condition for its age. The length of the case is 15 inches (38cm).

Nice find, looks brand new. How much it weights?
It is the first time I see a tripod with chains, if you please could share some pictures with it fully assembled, it would be nice to see how it looks like.

It looks to be almost identical to a Manon sliding telescopic tripod. They won't handle heavier cameras at all since they rely only on friction to stay extended, but they do work great with point-n-shoots or compact digitals. The bonus is the ability to angle the top extension arm as much as 90 degrees. The Manon I have, has a black cover and black teardrop-shaped plastic handle grip (neither are visible in the photo), and there's a comparison of the Manon, this Yashica MY-15, and a Velbon Deluxe on Chris Whelan's site. I don't have a chain for mine, but my first job at 16 was selling photo gear at a local discount store, and we sold the Velbon versions which had a shoulder or neck 'rope' styled cord. I don't remember if it was a metal snake chain, but maybe it was cotton or nylon.

As soon as I can get outside I'll take a photo of the tripod with its legs fully extended which will help to show how the chains are used. One thing I really like about this very early Yashica 'pod is the off-centre column which allows it to rotate to a horizontal plane as well as vertical.

I did not notice the off-centre column, but it is pretty clear in the picture , a very useful feature! When bought the Bessa (folder) camera, it came with an old and nice looking Bilora tripod, with clips to lock the brass made legs when extended. The clips are holding very well, even with some heavy 35 mm cameras, but the legs are too flexible and ends up spreading them too much, maybe something like the chains is missing.
