Enormous Robins means many eggs -- and GREAT opportunities for GREAT pictures of baby robins.
BUT DON'T DISTURB THEM!!!!

I can't separate the two 135mm's so I'll just keep both until something better comes along Here's a picture using the Yashinon with some post processing of course.

I decided to sell both the 135's on eBay as I bought a Tamron 200mm F/3.5 which just gives me the angle of view and reach I have bene looking for.
There will, no doubt, ne more Yash lenses along at some point as they just fascinate me (though not as much as the Tamron Adaptall range I have to admit).

Tamron SP AD II manual focus lenses are generally highly recommended. The SP90mm f2.5 macro, SP17mm f3.5, SP80-200mm f2.8 and SP300mm 2.8, to name just a few, were hard to beat for the price ... and of course could be easily swapped between camera bodies of many makes using the AD II adapter!

Currently I have: SP28-80mm F/3.5 - 4.2 SP90 F/2.5 200mm F/3.5 I am on the lookout for the SP80-200mm f2.8 I might even have a bash at the SP500 F/8 I might be snagging the SP17mm f3.5 in the next few days but am still seeing if there is anything Yashica in that focal length or thereabouts that would be good value. Gotta have more Yash in my stash

That 17mm SP AD II is very very good .... hope you get it and it's a good'un. The only complaint I had about the Tamron SP 300/2.8 was not about it's optical or build quality, which was excellent, it was that I could not use it on my Contax AX under some circumstances! Here's why ..................... do you get it? I guess the only other problem was having to carry that weight around ... (not Tamron's fault) On the up-side it cost less than a 1/10th of the Zeiss equivalent! As an aside, I was once given a Zeiss 300mm f2.8 T* to "play" with, at a meet-up with a CY UK Sales Manager. I was so $h1t scared I would drop it and wreck £15,000 (mid 1990's) of optics, that I could not get the best out of it due to nerves! Good luck with your Yashica and Tamron lens acquisitions.

Here's why ..................... do you get it? I'm pretty sure the poor AX could literally be squeeling! At 5 pounds I'd assume it could be pretty stressfull, and from the reflection I'm seeing, there's probably not much clearance for the AF to range distance either. Either one of those things would be reason enough for me to reconsider using that body, and maybe opt for a 137/139/167, or even an RX if focus confirmation was a reasonable enough alternative.

Spot on Lumiworx ...... the lens carried the camera, not the other way round But that was not the Achilles heel ... it was your observation that the Contax AX AF Assist light would not clear the big fat front lens element housing! So the camera kept trying to focus on the lens body rather than the subject! I resorted to using it with my humble 137MA instead .... but I did like that Contax AX body and also the Tamron SP300!

To circle back to moggi1964 's DS-M 135mm... It's still cold and miserable, but it was at least bright enough to try to pick up where I'd left off. I'm still shooting with the APS-C sized sensor on the NEX-F3 for these, but I figure that's the camera I'd end up using with these anyway, since I'd gain some magnification from the crop to get comparable "bullfrog shots" instead of portraits - at least with the 135mm. A side-by-side at a 1:2 ratio to see the details, to show the before and after of CA removal (almost entirely green hues) and a bit of a contrast and clarity boost. This one's at f/2.8, and the built-in hood is extended. Full size of the same shot, at 16:9, 1600px... And as I'd mentioned the DS-M 200mm earlier too, I thought I might introduce you to it's 'interior artwork'...

That made me chuckle. I've never seen that before. Yeah I think the 300 is not on my list but I'll certainly let you know if the 17mm works out.

Love the image and the fine work on the Post Processing. I still haven't done my Robin shot yet (so many things and so little time). That 200mm is scary and such a shame. I've been lucky that in all my auction lot purchases (all relying on the quality or lack of of the auction photographs) I have not had anything that looked close to that bad. Is there any hope for a rescue?

If I'm shooting digital, I always shoot RAW files, so anything done in post with CA is usually pretty easy and really quick. I just take a few seconds to tweak what the auto functions give me, so I can't take much credit for that part of it.
On the fungus issue... I've seen worse than this in terms of both the amount and spread, and I got it UV'd and cleaned - however - the voracity of the fungus itself, and how long it's been growing and etching itself into the glass is where the unknown comes in. I won't really know on this one untill I get it torn down and give it a pass of cleaning. It's under UV treatment right now, and will sit there for a day or so more, until I'll attempt anything.
I've tried cleaning some that looked miniscule in comparison, and it scarred the glass so badly, it was impossible to save it. The last lens I had this issue with was a Kipronar-type projection lens that I thought I could salvage from first glance, but between the amount of time it sat infected, and the extreme heat it endured until it was out of service, only doomed it to being turned into a 'glass hammer'. It just can't focus sharp enough to call it a lens.

Good luck with the expedition into the interior! I have a Cosina zoom lens that has a cloudy front element but I cannot get the screws to move to let me get in to salvage it (or try). It's an oddity, being one of the auto focus lenses made in the eighties so I would like to rescue it. I also have a Vivitar 200mm that is auto focus too (made by Cosina I believe).
