A Yashica FX-3 Super is shown below with a lens that really is a beauty: Carl Zeiss Jena's Jenazoom II 70-210mm f2.8-4 Macro. This lens came as a bit of a shock as it comfortably outperforms the ML 80-200 and is a pretty good match for the Carl Zeiss T* 80-200mm f4 Vario-Sonnar. It is remarkably sharp, handles distortion really well and at the 210mm setting, provides a very decent macro capability. Although its name suggests an East German heritage, it is a Japanese made/assembled lens; its build quality is exemplary. Best of all, it won't cost a fortune if you can find one... CZJ 70-210 f2.8-4 FX-3 Super rThe lens actually arrived attached to a FX-3 but I'm busy changing the light seals, hence the FX-3 Super in the photo; it arrived in the company of three Yashica DSB lenses: the 28mm, 50mm and 135mm, making a very good set from the late 1970s. This Jenazoom is going to enjoy a lot of use...

Very interesting info. I see that there are JENAZOOMS in various focal lengths, and that they appeared in various camera mounts -- not just C/Y -- such as M42, Pentax-K, Minolta, and ?? From the many I've seen, it appears that they are not all from the same era, and probably not all from the same manufacturer.

V...From the many I've seen, it appears that they are not all from the same era, and probably not all from the same manufacturer. How many other East-German lens manufacturers were at that time in addition to CZ Jena itself?... or do you mean CZ Jena lenses manufactured under license in other countries?

The latter.
Wouldn't it be funny if Tomioka were involved with some of them?

Interesting, but it seems that so far nobody really knows who was the hand behind the Jenazooms.

Only some of them are marked made in Japan, and some look like they were made elsewhere -- from Germany to Korea!!!!
I think there are many fingers in the bowl.

Here's another opinion on the manufacturer ... the usual suspect, as it were:

That nails it. That 35-70mm 3.5/4.8-22/30 was made by Cosina (I have one) and sold as a Minolta lens (NOT marked as ROKKOR). There were several other lenses sold by Minolta, but were not marked as ROKKOR -- and made by Cosina. www.subclub.org/minman/287035.htmI'm not sayin' they are bad glass, I'm just sayin' they were sold under other names -- like JENAZOOM. I've got an amazing Voigtlander 12mm f5.6 -- made by Cosina -- that's incredible.
