Just curious. Why are sellers asking so much for this lens? Because of it's rarity alone?

One is listed for 1300€, direct from the land of the rising sun and silly prices.
What make them now so expensive: - i think its a combination of exotic words ("Super Yashinon-R Tominon 10cm f2.8" .. imagine that !!) all together with their rarity and a lack of propper info online.
So, it could be now an extraordinary hipster lens, sth in the way of;
- '.. look my lens first, then my beard/mustachio, .. my haircut, then my shorten trousers with suspenders and my silly socks.. now back to my lens ..'
I have missed few times a chance to get some for under 100€, I just waited a bit to long wanting to get them cheaper.

We've all seen high asking prices show up for rare or hot/trendy gear over the years, and there might be times that a buyer will pay them. It might not boil down to a single reason, since 'worth' and 'value' doesn't always equal money. Sellers can ask for any amount, but that doesn't mean that they'll get it. These lenses are no longer made and only available in a finite number, so there's no other option if someone decides they want one right now, than to get it from the used/collector market, and end up paying the current/going rate. For those who want to make use of the lens in the way it was intended, their reasons may be rooted in the optical quality alone, and that value puts the money aspect in second place. Sample photos may provide at least one reason why higher prices sometimes get paid. On Flickr: www.flickr.com/search/?text=Super-Yashinon%2010cm In Thailand, on Pantip.com: topicstock.pantip.com/camera/topicstock/2012/06/O12215659/O12215659.html On a Chinese bloggers site: lensheimat.pixnet.net/blog/post/177036730-yashica-super-yashinon-r--100mm-f2.8-~%e8%80%81%e9%8f%a1%e6%96%b0%e7%94%9fI won't assume a high price 'should' be reasonable for every buyer, and at least in my case, I've waited years on some gear to buy something within my budget... I can be very patient. The only other alternative to get one might be if a company like MS Optics in Japan (Miyazaki Sadayasu) were to remake an optically equivalent version in modern mounts, at an equally high (or higher) price. It still won't be a Super Yashinon-R Tominon, but it might be close enough for users to put on their cameras and shoot with, when the originals aren't available at a reasonable price.

Yes Ive seen those. Still Im not convinced in the quality (see it as practical usage according to the current rarity/price) of that lens and i dont see the real value.
But Im sure there are people who are ready to pay 1300€ for an old lens to photograph flowers. Ans leaves. Dogs. Cats. Grandchildren ...
So I do agree: every product has at least one potential customer.
