This is an interesting little item - Yashica's M42 non-auto 4-Stage Extension Tube Set. M42 4 stage extension tubesMost Yashica extension tube sets appear to be 3-Stage. Yet this set offers 4 tubes and although it appears to be a late production model (from the cameras appearing in the instruction booklet), it is odd that they chose to make one without a connection for the aperture pin. Perhaps that's because of the miniscule No.1 tube which would be difficult to produce with the auto mechanism. The set does not appear in the Accessories brochure in the photo - just the usual 3-Stage Set. The Instruction Booklet contains an excellent series of magnification tables for the tubes in their various combinations or singly. It's a very nice set with machining to a very high standard.

I've never seen a four piece set. Were any of the three piece sets auto capable?
I have seen FIVE piece sets, but they are all for bayonet mounts where there are two pieces -- front and rear -- to attach to the camera and the lens, and then there are three tubes to fit in-between.
Very nice find -- even if it in manual only.

Yes, Yashica produced an auto M42 3 tube set: 11mm, 18mm and 36mm and of course the set for the C/Y mount: 13mm, 20mm and 27mm, the last of these three being the extension required to turn the ML 55mm f2.8 into a 1:1 macro lens.

There is also the Contax branded set of three which is one of the few Contax items you can still pick up cheaply.
